Marine Otter : Diet
Sea cats eat many kinds of crustaceans and molluscs, as well as fish and occasionally small mammals. Although mainly coastal, they will move inland in search of freshwater shrimps and fish. They have also been recorded as eating fruit and seaweed!
The sea cats can dive up to depths of 30 or 40 metres in pursuit of prey and are expert swimmers. They will often float on their backs, balanced by their tail, to consume prey on the surface even in very heavy swells. It has been estimated that they spend around 70% of their waking time hunting.
