The Chestnut Centre

Set on a steep hillside in Derbyshire, the Chestnut centre is (as far as we know) the only place in Britain to see a Giant Brazilian otter. The otter enclosures, also including native British, American river and Asian short-clawed, are at the bottom of the hill in a very attractive wooded valley. The enclosures themselves are all of a good size with room for the otters but great views for the visitors. Also down there are red squirrels and a collection of owls.

Back at the top of the (steep!) hill is the car park, shop, cafe (the usual stuff) and an informative exhibit on British ecology. Two hours is enough to see everything, but it's a lovely place to just wander around again and watch the otters. Twice up and down the hillside is enough, though!
